AI agent vs an outsourced BDC

Facts verified October 2026. Tell us if anything changed. Last updated October 18, 2026.

An outsourced BDC is another company’s agents working your calls. Willowood, the example this page uses, describes a live US-based bilingual team that works 24/7/365, with a sales-event and Meta-ads focus. DealersThink is built for inbound service calls booked in Xtime, with your own team still on the desk. Willowood is a fair fit for sales events. We are not ranking them beneath anyone.

What Willowood says it is

Willowood Ventures’ BDC page describes a “live US-based bilingual team” that works “24/7/365,” with a sales-event and Meta-ads BDC focus.

Xtime booking and a CDK integration are not stated on that page. They are not stated here. The bilingual, around-the-clock, US-based team is stated, and it is the strength of the category: a person, employed by the outsourcer, picks up.

Where an outsourced BDC is strong

It is strong when you need bodies for a sales event, a weekend blitz, or a Meta campaign that will dump more calls on the store than your people can answer. A live bilingual team that is already staffed for 24/7/365 does not ask you to hire, train, and schedule those shifts. Willowood’s own emphasis on sales events is a clear signal about who should call them. Fixed ops can still hire an outsourced BDC. This page does not pretend Willowood’s published focus is the service drive.

How DealersThink differs

Riley answers inbound service calls and books, moves, and cancels in Xtime through a certified integration. Your coordinators are the BDC desk, not a team in another company’s building. CDK history is on that desk for caller lookup and BDC Customers. Spanish is a per-store switch, not a claim that every hour is staffed by a bilingual person. Casey covers after-hours sales from your vAuto inventory. She is not a sales-event floor team, and we do not claim Meta-ads management.

Who should pick which

Pick an outsourced team like Willowood when the spike is a sales event and you want people, bilingual, on a clock you do not staff. Pick DealersThink when the steady problem is the service line: appointments in Xtime, history from CDK, and your own desk in the same product for the calls a person should take. A store can use both, a campaign team in a launch month and a service agent the rest of the year. We would rather say that than pretend one product covers the other’s published job.

FAQ

AI vs an answering service vs an outsourced BDC: what is the difference?

An answering service takes a message. An outsourced BDC is another company’s agents working your calls. An in-house BDC is your own team, on the hours you staff. Riley books into Xtime and hands the call to your desk when a person is needed. The longer comparison is on the compare pages.

How does the handoff to my BDC or advisors work?

The BDC desk is your own staff, in the same product as Riley. When a caller asks for a person, or when Riley should not book the request, she hands the call to that desk. A request she could not finish is left in Leads to recover so a coordinator can call back.

Does it speak Spanish? Can each store choose? Does it switch mid-call?

Riley answers in English and in Spanish. Each store turns Spanish on or leaves it off. On a store where Spanish is on, the call switches to Spanish when the caller asks for it or speaks Spanish, and switches back to English when they ask. On a store where Spanish is off, Riley stays in English and hands a Spanish-speaking caller to a person on the desk.
