AI BDC for dealerships, with real people on the same desk

Last updated October 18, 2026

An AI BDC for dealerships, here, means Riley answers and books service calls, Casey covers after-hours sales, and your own BDC stays on the desk. It is a hybrid: the agents take the calls that have a clear next step, and your coordinators take the calls that need a person. Certified CDK and Xtime integrations are how the service side reads history and writes the appointment.

What “AI BDC” means

BDC means business development center: the people and the software that handle a store’s calls, book the work, and follow up. An AI BDC is that job with an agent on the line. The phrase gets searched as a product (“AI BDC software,” “AI BDC agent,” “virtual BDC”) and as a definition (“AI BDC meaning”). Both are fair. The definition matters because a virtual BDC that replaces the team and a hybrid BDC that sits next to the team are different purchases.

DealersThink is the hybrid. Riley does not take the chairs off the floor. She takes the service calls, including the ones that arrive when the drive is dark, and she books them in Xtime when the menu allows it. Your coordinators keep the desk. They see the handoff, and they see Leads to recover when a call did not finish. Casey is the sales half of the same idea, after hours and on overflow, working from your vAuto inventory.

How it works

  1. Riley takes the service call. She answers 24/7, in English and Spanish, with certified Xtime booking and certified CDK history behind her.
  2. Your team keeps the desk. A guest who asks for a person, and a request she should not book, land with your staff. The desk is in the same product.
  3. Casey covers sales when your desk cannot. After hours, and when sales is on another call, she answers from the vAuto report. Wholesale units are not offered.

AI, a human team, and a hybrid

An all-human BDC knows the store and stops at the end of the shift. An answering service never knows the scheduler. An outsourced BDC can cover the clock and still be a stranger to your op codes, your customers, and your advisors. A hybrid keeps your people for the calls that need judgment and puts an agent on the calls that have a slot, a vehicle, and a job the menu recognizes.

The handoff is the product, not a footnote. Riley can pass the caller to the desk. The coordinator is not starting from a blank screen: caller lookup has the CDK history for that number when the store has it, including the customer, the vehicles, and the repair orders. BDC Customers is the same history, searched by name, phone, or vehicle, when the call is not the way you found the person.

Will this replace your agents? No. A store that wants the team gone is shopping for a different category. A store that wants the team to stop losing the 7 p.m. oil change, and to see the guest when they pick up, is the store this is built for. We are live at a 16-rooftop dealer group. The name is not published here.

What an AI BDC still cannot decide

It should not invent a booking the scheduler refused. It should not pretend to know a DMS it is not connected to. DealersThink’s certified DMS integration is CDK. We do not claim Reynolds, Tekion, or Dealertrack. It should not quote a price on a web page that has not earned one. And it should not tell you the team is optional. If the demo makes the people sound temporary, ask to see the desk.

What it connects to

Certified CDK and Xtime integrations · vAuto inventory (Casey). Riley books, moves, and cancels in Xtime. The CDK integration reads customer, vehicle, and repair-order history for caller lookup and for BDC Customers. Casey works from your vAuto inventory on after-hours and overflow sales calls. vAuto is not described as a certified integration. The same three are summarized on Integrations.

Sample call

Until that recording is ready, the path is the one above: Riley answers, offers an opening Xtime actually has, writes the appointment in Xtime, and hands the caller to your desk when the request should not be booked on the call.

Human handoff

The BDC desk is your staff, in the same product as Riley and Casey. A caller who asks for a person is handed to that desk. A recall, a diagnostic, or an op code Xtime will not take is not announced as booked. The call goes to the desk, or Riley takes a number for a coordinator to confirm. Anything she could not finish waits in Leads to recover.

DealersThink is live at a 16-rooftop dealer group. The group’s name is not on this page.

FAQ

Are your integrations certified?

Yes. DealersThink has certified CDK and Xtime integrations. That certification was confirmed on October 17, 2026. The integration pages describe each one.

Do customers know they are talking to AI? Can they ask for a person?

A caller can ask for a person at any point, and Riley hands the call to the BDC desk. The desk is the store’s own staff. This page does not publish the exact words Riley uses to identify herself.

How does the handoff to my BDC or advisors work?

The BDC desk is your own staff, in the same product as Riley. When a caller asks for a person, or when Riley should not book the request, she hands the call to that desk. A request she could not finish is left in Leads to recover so a coordinator can call back.

Will an AI BDC replace my BDC agents?

No. The BDC desk is your team. Riley takes service calls, including overflow and the hours the store is closed, and hands a caller to a person when the call needs one. The people stay on the desk.

AI vs an answering service vs an outsourced BDC: what is the difference?

An answering service takes a message. An outsourced BDC is another company’s agents working your calls. An in-house BDC is your own team, on the hours you staff. Riley books into Xtime and hands the call to your desk when a person is needed. The longer comparison is on the compare pages.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on rooftops and products. Book a demo. This page does not list a price.
